A TDS meter reads total dissolved solids in parts per million. Pure-water window cleaning needs a reading close to zero: anything left in the water is what dries on the glass as spotting.
Test the output of a reverse osmosis or de-ionising stage before every job. A spent resin bed looks exactly like a fresh one, and the meter is the only way to tell them apart before the water is on the windows.
